He received his undergraduate degree in History/Political Science from Mount Saint Mary College in 1993 and earned his juris doctorate degree in 1996 from Albany Law School. He previously served as the representative for the Ulster County Bar Association in the House of Delegates for the New York State Bar Association.
In 2023, he was named one of “Hudson Valley’s Top Lawyers” by Hudson Valley Magazine.
He previously served as a Fire Commissioner in the City of Kingston, New York from 2012-2016 and is an active social member of A.H. Wicks Engine & Truck Company, the oldest volunteer fire company in the City of Kingston. He served as Alderman and Minority Leader of the Kingston Common Council from 2006 to 2008.
For many years, he served as an Attorney Advisor for the Coleman High School Mock Trial Team. He is also a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a first-degree black belt in judo.
Cahill has written four books. The first, entitled “Hauptmann’s Ladder: A Step-by-Step Analysis of the Lindbergh Kidnapping,” has been described as “the definitive examination of the Lindbergh case” and was awarded the Gold Medal prize as the 2014 IndieFab True Crime Book of the Year.
His second book, “Sidetracked, The Betrayal and Murder of Anna Kithcart,” was awarded the Honorable Mention prize as the 2017 IndieFab True Crime Book of the Year.
His third book, “Deadly Grief,” was his first work of fiction.
His fourth and current book, “Snap Judgment,” was released in December 2022.
